Amanza - Finding stability to rebuild both her and her daughter’s future
The agency has been assisting Amanza, a 26-year-old mother and her 3-year-old daughter who have both demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. After enduring years of mental and physical abuse, the mother found herself homeless in mid-2025. She and her daughter had resorted to sleeping in Milwaukee County parks for several months, being unable to secure shelter space.
In August, Amanza sought assistance from Maximus. The participant shared the extent of her situation, including that she had no phone or even a support system to help her and her daughter through this very difficult time. Recognizing the urgency of her situation, Maximus provided immediate stabilization by placing both mother and daughter in a hotel. With consistent support from the agency and several department staff, the mother began rebuilding her self-esteem, secured employment, and even found a home to rent.
Through our supportive services and case management resources, Maximus assisted her with the rent and deposit fees, helping her successfully transition into stable housing. Over the last two months the agency worked with Amanza to offer extended hotel stays, family stabilization payment, and housing and transportation assistance. The family stabilization was approved and processed quickly. The participant intended to use the funds for the first month’s rent and security deposit for a safe apartment, bedding for her and her child, general household supplies, clothes and food.
Today Amanza and daughter are safe & secure and are on a path toward long-term success. The agency is grateful to see how we have impacted their lives, and we continue communication and case management support while they start to build their new lives!
